December in New York City was so magical, from seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree for the first time to decorating our apartment with what little we had to make it feel festive. The city was alive with holiday cheer, and I loved spending more time with my roommate, Juliet, going out to eat, exploring, and just enjoying this season together.
I visited Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, a stunning and peaceful space in the middle of the chaotic fifth ave. And, of course, I couldn’t resist seeing more shows. Drag: The Musical was silly and fun, The Great Gatsby was just as dazzling the second time, and Teeth: The Musical was the weirdest, most ridiculous show but somehow still amazing.
One of the most unforgettable nights of my life happened this month when I went to a taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. I was already excited, but I had no idea how incredible the night would turn out. Sabrina Carpenter, Brandi Carlile, and Elton John were all guests on the show that night. When I saw them come out, I genuinely could have fainted. I could cry just recalling this now. Elton John is one of my favorite artists of all time. I still can’t believe this actually happened.
At work, I helped lead a silent vigil for human rights in Palestine outside of the U.S Mission and the UNHQ. It was a powerful and emotional experience that reminded me why this work matters.
After a busy month in the city, I finally flew home for Christmas and spent the rest of the year with my family. I missed my pets most of all, and I am so excited to soak in the rest of the year with them. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
