November: Faith, Family, and Future

November was really quiet, calm, and fun after a hectic few months! I came to an agreement with my boss and site coordinator that I will now work part-time at the UN while also hopefully starting part-time work at a church to fulfill the hands-on ministry I’ve been craving. It feels like the perfect balance, and I’m excited for what this next chapter will bring.

My mom came to visit at the beginning of the month! We spent the week seeing some incredible shows, visiting Central Park and the Zoo, and Bryant Park Winter Village. We saw the play The Roommate with Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone, Water for Elephants (again, because I loved it so much the first time), and Hadestown, a favorite because we both adore Jordan Fisher. We also visited the New York Public Library which was magical.

After that, I flew home very briefly to vote as my absentee ballot did not come in time. It was important for me to vote in this election, especially in Ohio.

Back in NYC, I got the chance to see Cynthia Erivo at an event promoting the new Wicked movie. I waited in the cold for hours, but it was so worth it. A few nights later, I saw Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, and after the show, I had the chance to meet Auli’i Cravalho (who voiced Moana) and Adam Lambert. Another incredible NYC moment.

November also marked a few significant moments in my faith journey. I got commissioned as a YAV at Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn. I was also able to sing a powerful song called "Plowshare Prayer" for the OPW worship service on Zoom, which was a powerful experience. The most exciting moment, however, was that I officially became Presbyterian! I became a member of Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton, where I used to work.

I also traveled to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where I hope to continue my journey next year. I had the chance to spend some time with Destini, the head of the YAV program, and connect with new friends, too. It was an amazing visit that made me even more excited for the future. On my way back to NYC, since Pittsburgh is so close, I stopped by home and saw the new Wicked movie with my mom!

To wrap up the month, while I was still home, I decorated the Christmas tree and spent some time with friends and family before flying back to NYC. I feel a deep sense of gratitude for all that November brought. I am in the holiday spirit and cannot wait for Christmas, my favorite holiday!
