January: New Year, New Me, New Plans

Happy New Year! I am very excited for new beginnings.

I started the new year in Asheville, North Carolina at Montreat, attending the College Conference to recruit for the YAV program. Only three people showed up to my workshops, but I still had a great time spending time with Jimmie and Ivy from OPW. A few things didn’t go as planned, but I learned to be patient and go with the flow, definitely a skill I’m still working on.

The rest of January was so slow and quiet and exactly what I needed. I read seven books (more than I read in all of 2024), deep-cleaned my room and entire apartment, and took the whole “New Year, New Me” thing very seriously. I also started singing and posting more covers, which has been really fulfilling!

I finally got a New York Public Library card (which I am so, so excited about), went to The Met, and got my hair done. Sometimes, little things make all the difference in feeling like yourself!

In very exciting news, I got accepted to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and will be attending in the fall for my Master of Divinity! Also, I was accepted to the World Student Christian Federation’s U.S. Student Leadership Team. I’ll get to attend a planning retreat in D.C. in March and work with other young people in faith-based advocacy. I am so excited for this opportunity.

I also finally started my second placement at Broadway Presbyterian Church, helping with Sunday school and their food pantry. After months of office work, it feels so good to do hands-on ministry again.

To top it all off, I saw Wicked on stage (it is truly life-changing every single time) and & Juliet with Dominick, which was so much fun. January was slow but full of growth, rest, and big decisions, exactly what I needed to start the year right. It is so, so cold here in New York and I am craving the sun, but I have to hold on to hope that the sun will come back soon.
